This week we are thinking about thinking. After experimenting with the 6 thinking hats technique what do you think? Is this method helpful? Are you in favor of practicing this technique again? Why or why not?

This afternoon President Obama spoke to you, the schoolchildren of America, to encourage you to take responsibility for your learning. The President challenged you to set goals, try hard and not to be afraid of failure.

Here are the finished VoiceThread projects. How do you think your class did compared to the others? Obviously, the larger classes (D and C) had the advantage and have an impressive number of comments and countries included. In the next few days I will be reviewing all of your work and then you will be assigned questions to help you analyze all of this information.

Term Project Clues

Here is a quick link to the Black Ships and Samurai site that we are using for this project. Below is a list of which chapters to look at when you are answering each of the questions. Remember you all have the same 12 questions. College Prep students have 2 additional questions that Academic students don’t have and Honors students have 2 additional questions that the CP students don’t have. Because of this the questions are numbered differently depending on the level.

Please use the comment area to ask any questions you have about the project. Students, feel free to offer assistance if you see a comment question before I do.

Just a heads up that any comment that does not list the student’s name will be immediately deleted. Also any student comment that links to a URL will be deleted as well. This is a popular function on blog sites….people promote their own blogs by posting on other people’s blogs. Readers will click on a commenter’s name and be directed to their blogsite….and ultimately many on-line friendships are born this way. All of that is not a purpose of this blog. Many teachers (mostly English teachers I think) on this site have their students create their own blogs so having the link function is appropriate in many cases while “edublogging.” However, that is not a requirement of this class assignment.

Also, The textbook publishers did not like that I had the book on-line link here with my passcode info…hoping that I don’t get shut off. If you need the login codes see me personally.

Hope everything goes well today. For the newbies, remember you need to go back into the archives and call up the older April posts from vacation week in order to catch up to the rest of the class.

Also, once everyone is finished with their assignments, please explore the “helpful world history sites” in the right margin…..you will be getting an assignment from there next week. Can you guess which one?

By Monday you are to have read pages 604-612 and 638-641. After much trial and error–I figured out how to get you all access to the book on-line. For now log into http://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com and use my info: username=mbuell ~ password=history. From there you can access the book, but you need to know the chapters and section numbers. So for this assignment it’s chapter 18, section 1 and chapter 18, section 5. Good luck and please comment below on your experience with the on-line text. Is is helpful? Is there anything you notice that I can do to make the process easier? Do you like reading books on-line or it is more difficult?
