Ideologies Today

As we learn about the major ideologies of the 1800s I would like you to think about how similar or different they are to the ideological battles being fought in the United States in 2009. Watch this clip from today’s Meet The Press where the panelists discuss the right vs. left in America today. Keep in mind that our country was founded on the ideals of liberalism as they saw it 200+ years ago. So, really we are all “liberal” in the United States, but within our liberal belief system are divisions we have labeled: conservative, liberal and socialist. What are the pros and cons of having such ideological clashes?

To me this is stating everyone in each of the groups conservative, liberal and socialist have their own opinion. these grups basically seperate people into groups depending on the way they see things. this could be good because eveyone gets their opinoins out, but it may also be bad because the groups will fight over opinions.

This clip is saying that the three groups are split up by there own opinionns. They each have a different view based on what they think about the subject.the pros about having three diffrent groups are that they each get two voice their own opinions. the cons are having people fight over the diffrent groups and what they say about certain things.

There are many pros and cons of having such ideological clashes. For instance, a pro is that people are separated into groups by what they feel strongly about. It’s good to be in different groups because people can share their views with each other and they will know people are listening to them. Usually when different groups come together, conservative, liberal and socialist, they don’t even listen to each other. They have a heated battle between them and all they think about is defending their group. With different groups they can make their division stronger. Therefore, they can fight for what they believe in with a greater passion. Although having groups may be good in some cases there are definitely cons. If you have ever seen a political battle on TV or any place else normally it ends up being brutal. People are defending their beliefs so strongly that they don’t even care if they are hurting other people. That makes you wonder, what is the point of these groups if all they are going to do is fight? A big controversy in the United States is the battle between democrats and republicans. When you think about it having different divisions or having no opinion at all just leads to the same thing. They both lead to somebody fighting with someone else.

This video is saying that the three groups that some people want give people a chance to have there own say in different matters but many people disagree with the groups and what is being said by each group which causes the disagreement

This video is saying that there are three political groups in the US with very different views. A good thing that comes with the ideological clashes is that people might be more encouraged to voice their opinions and suggestions. If everyone thought the same way, it would be much harder to voice different opinions, and people might be hesitant to do so. A bad thing about the clashing views is that people sometimes get too heated about their opinions, and consider their thoughts to be the only right one.

A pro of having ideological clashes is that everyone is always thinking and voicing their opinion, make it easier for the government to make improvements in our country. A con of ideological clashes is that most of the time it results in fighting between people who once agreed with each other.

There were three different political groups in this video. Each group had a different opinon on different matters though. Its a good thing though, because when people tell there point of veiws then sometimes those veiws/opinons turn into ideas. Those ideas would make our lives more advanced, so every persons opinion matters.

    cool.

Let me remind you that you need to say more than “interesting.” And if you say “interesting” or “very interesting” at least defend your position. What exactly is of interest to you? What is confusing perhaps? What quote from one of the correspondants appealed to you? Be specific.

Also, for those of you who haven’t commented yet: please read what your classmates have written. There are some very astute observations from your peers and you may wish to respond to one of their comments instead of the original post.

this video is about how our government is different, since there is different points of views. but all the views come together to make our country better. all american citizens who are registered to vote have the right to vote for our leaders and this is a big difference than most of the countries because we have a democracy and other countries dont.

Ya, this video was interesting to me, it really changes my views about sociaty and how groups can influence the world around us. At first I thought it was bad to have more than one group because they would fight over that their opinions were better, but now I think its good to have more than one group because if there was only one type of group out there than there wouldn’t be any changes in the government, economy, and sociaty everything would revolve around that one group. But with mulitple groups there are many ideas that can be pitched. The government, and economy can pick out the ideas that can benefit us all. Without opinions the world would be dull.

In this video, opinions were addressed from the different political groups on current issues such as what is going on with health care and possible solutions to improve our economy. Giving their own opinions out can cause tension, but it can also lead to finding a way to comprise and find ways to help certain situations our nation is facing socially, economically, and politically.

This clip proves that it’s good to have different political parties. These political parties allow people to have their own opinion. But they cause arguments and people to blaim each other for different problems.

  • 17    Scott G // Oct 8, 2009 at 8:34 pm

People have different ideas and thoughts on all subject. People should share there opinion but not criticize other people’s ideas. If they don’t agree with you thats their problem not y0urs.

Conservative liberal and socialist people all have different opinions. The pros of these opinions would be that we would all work together and think about the different point of views of ech category. The cons would be disagreement between all these categories.

  • 19    amanda b. // Oct 8, 2009 at 8:42 pm

i believe that everyone has a different opinion and this can be viewed as either a pro or a con.

  • 20    jenna w // Oct 8, 2009 at 8:45 pm

I agree with Lisa N. If everyone shared their opinions then we could improve a lot. Everyone thinks differently so think of all the ideas that are not being heard. I also agree with Jennifer P when she said that some people think that they’re right and everyone else is wrong. An opinion has no right or wrong answer and I think everyone should be allowed to share their thoughts and ideas.

  • 21    Sarah W // Oct 8, 2009 at 9:16 pm

This video explains how there are three groups with different opinions. this is a good and bad thing. the good thing would be everyone being able to state and defend their opinion, the bad thing is that this different opinions could spark an agruement.

  • 22    Keison C. // Oct 8, 2009 at 9:29 pm

Before watching the video i thought that by having different groups it would just cause people to dissagree. And they would just fight to prove that thier opinion is better. Now I think the different groups allow there to be different options for the best of everyone.

This video is about people and their opinions of healthcare. There are three groups with different ideas and ways of veiwing the problem. I agree with Sara W, she said that people stating their own opinions is good and bad at the same time. It could be bad because some people (like Jennifer P. had said) get to heated about their opinion and they fight just to prove that their idea was the best. This won’t solve anything. Saying your opinion could be good because you would contributing YOUR opinion on healthcare which helps make it better for everyone. Then even if they don’t agree with you, at least you said what you were thinking and defended your position on why.

  • 24    Serena N. // Oct 9, 2009 at 4:03 pm

In this clip it shows the many different opinions that people have which can be good because it shows the differences in people.

  • 25    Katrina A. // Oct 10, 2009 at 10:27 am

In my opinion the pros and cons of having liberals and conservatives is that if they each have strong beliefs about ideas they can come together and share them. With liberals and conservatives it makes it easier to voice opinions about things because most people in each group share similar ideas and thoughts about economy, politics, and government issues. The liberals all usually agree in the same things as well as the conservatives in their group. Which makes it easier for the governement to decide on something because there are fewer groups and fewer ideas and thoughts.

  • 26    Brendan K // Oct 13, 2009 at 2:04 pm

I thought that this was an interesting video. I think that it was interesting because each of the three groups (conservative, liberal, and socialist) stated their opinions on the issues that we’re facing today.

  • 27    ariana l // Oct 13, 2009 at 8:13 pm

I believe this video is saying that each group has their own opinions. There are no rights and wrongs to an opinion and people shouldn’t classify opinions into rights and wrongs. This is good and bad because arguments may spark if people defend their opinions.

  • 28    Meg M // Oct 14, 2009 at 4:14 pm

I believe this videois a discussion over ideological clashes. People get way too into the subjest, too heated. It seems when others with differnent opinions speak they arent even heard. People are so passionateaboutheir beliefs they can hurt others and say things they’ll soon regret. I agree on alot of the points Brenda B made. Lastly even though tension is caused because of people expressing their views argument SOMETIMES results in a solution to our problems.

  • 29    Gabi T // Oct 14, 2009 at 7:02 pm

Everyone has their opinion, and this video is showing that there are three different groups. These different groups all have different opinions. This is a good thing because people can have options and get a view from a different perspective. It’s also not such a good thing because disputes may occur between opposing sides.

  • 30    Brendan C // Oct 14, 2009 at 9:38 pm

This video shows three different political groups , conservative, liberal and socialist, and their different opinions on things. This video was interesting to me because I like to see how other peoples’ opinions are different.

  • 31    Chris M // Oct 19, 2009 at 4:03 pm

The video was interesting because it talked about the three groups: conservative, liberal, and socialist. I didnt know much about these groups, but now I know more about them because of the video
