I’ve been dying to try out this technology, so our April vacation trip to Washington, DC was a great excuse. The entire family got in on the act—even Aggie!
If you’d like to try this on your own–it’s called a VoiceThread. Any suggestions as to how I could use this with students….it would be neat to have you all comment on something, but what?

Ms. Buell the Bruins game that you were watching in D.C. at that time I was in Canada at a Hard Rock Cafe and the same game was going on. Also what else I think was ironic was there were Mexican flags all over the place because they were trying to give away a trip to Mexico and I don’t think the contest is now running because of the swine flu.

Looks like you and your family had a great time in D.C.! As for using the VoiceThread for students, maybe students could pick a historical topic and use pictures and their voice to tell more about the event.

Looks like you guys had a lot of fun on your trip! Some of the things in the slide show were familiar to me because i took a trip to D.C. back in December. Also, 3 years ago when i went to D.C., my family went to Arlington’s National Cemetery and saw the JFK grave and the changing of the guard. Seeing the changing of the guard was so cool and it was almost intimidating the way everything was silent and so precise. One of my favorite things in D.C. that your family seemed to also enjoy was the WWII monument and of course, the White House.

Wow your trip looked fun! That’s cool that you were able to revisit the place you use to work at. Did anyone remember you from your days working at the restaurant? I think this new technology is really cool. Good job!

mrs. buell, my computer is wicked slow so i only got to see like the first couple of pictures, but your trip seemed pretty cool. i also went to washington DC with my family over the summer. i went to see the state capital and saw the memorial for abraham lincoln and world war II veterains. my family thought we saw the white house but we actually saw the state capital building. but then my dad put in the right address for the white house and we were like this was not where we were yesterday.
you trip looks really fun and i think i should try to tell my parents to go to the holocaust museum.

Your family is so willing, Ms. Buell! If my parent was a teacher and they wanted me to say some things about a picture for all their students to see I don’t think I’d be as willing. Your trip looked really fun, you sure made good use of your vacation!

It looks like you and your family had a lot of fun over the vacation. My dad’s whole family is from D.C., and I usually go there every April vacation, but this year I had track. All the museums and monuments never get old. They are all so beautiful and powerful. Great job with the voice thread, especially Ronnie she is a great speaker.

D.C. looks like a really fun trip, I think I’d like to travel there some time. I got a kick outta the voice thread, it seems like it might have taken a lot of time. I can’t believe you were able to convice the whole family to participate. Patrick must be a good sport, I don’t know if my mom could have convinced me to do that! haha. My favorite is the picture of you guys and D.C. at night.

Wow it looks like you guys had a great time! I would love to go to DC, it’s so filled with history. Hving the kids use the voicethread sounds like a fun idea as well. The only problem I can think of is that I’m sure not everyone has a microphone to use. Otherwise, great thought!

This voicethread is wonderful, and you’ve given me a great idea for my own family blog. I’ve been trying to figure out how to share our two days in Walt Disney World with my grandparents, mom, husband, and four-year-old daughter. Watching and listening to your voicethread captured my imagination; what a great way to share a vacation story. Thank you for the inspiration!
In about a week, I’ll be taking students on a two-day trip to see performances at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and I think we’ll create a voicethread to capture that experience as well.

I found the holocaust museum to be very educational and to see all of the horrors the jewish people had to go through. I didnt get to finish my tour but if i went back to D.C. i would take the tour again.

Sorry this comment is really late Mrs. Buell apparently i never did it according to my progress report. Well it looks like you, Jeff and Ronnie and Patrick had a fun-filled vacation. As for the voice thread, I did not nejoy the speaking part of our project but is great technology to be used further in the future.
