President Obama

For those of you who have enjoyed this site you might want to venture over to the President’s new blog on the new white house site.  Very ambitious proposals to connect us to the administration as part of the goals of communication, transparency and participation.  Can you tell Mr. Obama used to be a teacher?

Also, I had this great idea to put the inaugural address into wordle….apparantly not such an original idea because even though I went on around 1 pm yesterday many others had beat me to it and it was already posted on news sites like BBC:

Please see the entire speech on the white house site, but this was one of my favorite lines:

To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the West – know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

I think that the wordle looks really cool…I find it funny that one of the largest word on it is EVERY. It kind of makes you think. Could it be saying that the U.S is now truly united, because EVERYone is equal?

In my French class today my teacher Mrs. Izbicki brought up the revrends speech and told us about a specific part in it that she found offensive and I know why she would find it offensive but I just want to know what your view on this line. I have taken it from a direct quote ” and when white will embrace what is right.”

I think that this wordle is pretty neat. I would have like to see Obama’s full speech live, but you know it was lunch block and I was headed to the cafeteria =)

This site compares a wordle of Obama’s inaugural speech with one of Bush’s farewell speech. I think its interesting to see the similarity in frequently used words.

Hmmm, Adam. I will have to look that one up to see what the context was because I don’t remember that specifically. I will get back to you.

Andrea–thanks for the wordle link. If you scroll down there is a wordle of Bush’s 2005 inaugural address and then a link to a site that has wordles comparing lots of other presidential speeches. Here is that site: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/tag_clouds_of_obamas_inaugural_speech_compared_to_bushs.php

This wordle is very neat. I like how we do it in class and how we can compare it to his speech now. Nation, every and less stand out to me the most, and that’s good because in our nation there will be less wrong doings and everyone is now equal. This should be an interesting next few years…
