U.S. Position on Gaza War

Published by buell at 7:09 am under History

It is quite a challenge to find any unbiased news coverage on this topic as I’m sure you all picked up on as you were completing your vacation homework assignment, but this a decent summary of the United States’ position on the current war. Obviously, this topic will be a large part of our class in the upcoming months—of course we need to first tackle WWI and WWII both of which played a huge role in the current crisis. In the meantime, this piece will at least expose you to your country’s official stance on the matter:

I personally think that the U.S. should stop giving weapons to Israel because of how many people it has killed. But I can see why the U.S. is siding with Israel. It is to get rid of terroristic events that come from Gaza and on of the docterines I think the Bush doctorine is to get rid of all terrorism. I think that is why the U.S. is taking this view and is helping Israel and not Gaza, in a military view. I still think that the U.S. should stop giving weapons though and instead use diplomacy to try and solve the problem.

why wouldnt they negociate with the terrorists? that shouldnt even have to be discussed.. to avoid another 9/11 act they shouldve negociated with the terrorists the minute they found out they could. also what are those people doing in the street rioting with green flags? i dont get it

We should not have to negotiate with the terrorists, but in reality it seems that would be the bet way to solve this problem. I am glad we are siding with Israel but I also feel like it is dangerous because of the possibility of a terrorist attack. Like Adam, I think we should not be giving Israel war supplies, but only because we need to protect ourselves from the terrorists.

Okay first of all, I agree that the U.S should continue to “stick by” Israel…however not just because I think they are a nice country (although they could be) but I think in a way we HAVE to create and stick to our alliance for continuous protection and information given to the U.S from Israel in relation to the terrorists we are fighting against in Iraq… long story short, WE NEED ISRAEL for our own good, so why would we want to mess that up??? Next, if no one has noticed yet we are in RECESSION!!! Why do we (The U.S) continue to give so much money and weaponry to Israel?? Yes, I understand that Israel is our friend and we need them, however do we really need to be giving them 3.5 billion dollars a year…ARE THEY GIVING US MONEY???

i think that the United States is right by support Israel to stop the Humas leading terrorist. there is nothing left to do, because if we negoticate with the terrorist we are just saying “if you don’t attack us, then we will do this for you” or somehting like that. they oculd hang that over us, or cause a war. i think siding with Israel is the best option because it could help bring down the terrorist.

i agree with adam and nick. in order to avoid another 9/11 mishap, we should not be giving them weapons, which are only used to kill. also, the US should have immediately negociated with the terrorists, and try solving the problem. when we give them weapons, nothing gets solved, people just die, left and right. but, with the US siding with Israel, we are somewhat protecting ourselves from attacks, but we could also be liable to being attacked.

I can understand what Israel is trying to do and I can see why the U.S. is siding with them.We would probably do the same thing in their position. If there was ever another terrorist threat on NYC, every New York City police officer with a badge and gun would be given orders to remove the threat by whatever means are neccessary. Whatever it would take to protect our country.

I agree with most of the people here that they should stop giving isreal weapons because it could just cause problems because weapons are only used to kill people. But at the same time I think that they should continue because it is makeing it so that if something happends they will defend them because we stuck by them by givving them weapons. So I actually agree both the people that say to stop and the people who say to continue.

I also agree with Matt and Adam. We might normally back Israel, they are causing the deaths of so many innocent people during these attacks. For the sake of the greater good, we should stop giving weapons to the Israelies. Shawna had a good point as well. If we are giving Israel billions of US dollars every year, what are they giving us in return? Why do we continue supporting them? What is our motive?

okay… well i am still confused as to what is going on but wouldnt negociating with the terrrorists just infuriate them more? and shouldnt we stop giving them weapons because then they could just turn around and kill us with the weapons we provided?

  12.   sara gilbertoon 06 Jan 2009 at 3:06 pm

i think that since America has an alliance with Israel they have no choice but to stick to that. if they went against the alliance it could cause a huge problem for us. i agree with adam though, in that we should support them and stop giving them weapons. we say we’re so against terrorism, but then give one country weapons to attack another?

  13.   Cadenceon 06 Jan 2009 at 4:07 pm

I 100% agree with Sawna. We need the info from Israel about the terrorists but we can’t keep sending them weapons when we are in such a tough economic situation.

im not sure if i understand completly whats going on. but i do agree with president bush on not negosiating with terroist and i dont understand why were are giving isreal wepons in the first place

  15.   AriRosenthalon 06 Jan 2009 at 6:17 pm

I agree with Bush and Obama. I think that there is no point it trying to negotiate with the terrorists because they’re not just going to change their minds all of a sudden after many years of this. If they think we are against them they may turn against us and we don’t need more fighting, especially in this time of transition between two parties.

  16.   Kurt Joyceon 08 Jan 2009 at 6:49 pm

I am in the middle with this debate. Yes, I do agree with bush and obama that Hamas should be islolated and the terroist voice should be silenced. But on the other hand avoding the terroist could lead to future threats to the U.S. I belive the Isreal and Hamas should have a confrence discussing the matter do to all the lives that have been lost. And for the U.S. we have enough prombelms to worry about so we should leave other countires alone for once.

I agree with Jasmine, that we should help Israel and stand up to the terrorists. But I also agree with Adam anD nick that we should try to negogtiate with the terrorists to see if it would help with the situations. But maybe weshould let the other countries handle it since we have enough problems on us already.

  18.   Megan P.on 09 Jan 2009 at 10:22 am

The people above me all have very good points and different opinions. I agree with the ones that say we should stop giving weapons to Israel, because we should. Israel may have their problems with the Hamas, but the U.S. should not get too involved so that other countries are angry with us. Israel should reconsider their actions for the good of others.
