It is much easier to comment on someone else’s blog than to actually manage your own blog, but here I go. The concept of having an on-line journal to rant and rave on is very appealing to me–as is the idea of having a place to post homework assignments, class news and a place to get feedback on all of my crazy ideas.

Whats in a name? I am just terrible with names. I know I sat next to you at the last class. For the life of me I cannot remember your name. I am thinking it is Maryann. I don’t see it any where on your blog. I do however know your husbands name and your four children. Are you sure you gave birth to these children? You have such a slight build it is hard to believe that you were pregnant. You must work out and watch everthing you eat. So I hope I get to sit next to you next week and find out if your name is Maryann. I named my daughter Ashelyann. I think the “ann” at the end of a name gives the name elegance. How is that for ranting and raving?

Thanks for the feedback, Cassie. I made a few changes based on your comments. I am Mary Lou, but I answer to Mary Beth, Mary Ann, Mary Kate, etc…..I’m sure all Mary somethings do the same. As my students can tell you I am horrible with names…takes me forever to learn everyone’s name. Homeroom is impossible, with several kids sharing a last name…ugh!!!

I feel like I am eavesdropping on the conversation! I like how you’re getting to know one another!

I agree with Cassie that you look like you never had children. I am so jealous! That said, I can see that History would be a great area to blog about. There is only so much detail and discussion that you can get into in class. In the blog you can pursue subjects of interest beyond the classroom bounds. I tutor MCAS Math and the interest of my students in a blog would probably be very limited.

Mary Lou or should I call you Mrs. Buell
I love your idea of starting a blog for your classes. It is a great way to get feedback from the students. The students can give you valuable information on their learning; for example if they are confused on a certain detail or they would just like more information on the current subject. It is also a better way to get to know your students. You can ask the students a different question each week and tell them they must log onto your site each week. I think the more we get to know our students the more they feel like they belong to something more than just a class.
